Da Lat
Travel Guide 2026
“Where clouds settle over pine-covered hills“
Overview
Nestled on the Lam Vien Plateau at 1,500 meters above sea level, Da Lat is the quiet capital of Lam Dong Province in Vietnam’s Central Highlands.
Known as the “City of Eternal Spring,” this French-colonial hill town offers a refreshing escape from the tropical heat of the lowlands, with cool temperatures, misty mornings, and rolling hills carpeted in pine forests and flower gardens.
Discovered in 1893 by Swiss-French physician Dr. Alexandre Yersin and formally established as a town in 1916, Da Lat evolved from a remote highland outpost into a beloved retreat for Vietnamese tourists and a hidden gem for international travelers. Since a 2025 provincial merger, Da Lat has also served as the administrative capital of an expanded Lam Dong Province that now stretches all the way to the coast at Mui Ne.

Where to Stay
Da Lat’s neighborhoods each offer a different pace, so where you base yourself shapes the whole trip.
City Center – Xuan Huong Lake & Hoa Binh Market
Walkable to the lake, the market, and most restaurants and cafés — the easiest area if you don’t want to rely on a motorbike. The trade-off is that it’s also the liveliest and most touristy part of town, with weekend crowds and some traffic noise.
Tran Phu Street & the Old French Quarter
Quiet, tree-lined streets with colonial-era villas, a short walk or ride from the center — a good middle ground between atmosphere and convenience. The terrain is hilly, so expect some walking uphill.
Langbiang & Lat Village Area
Closer to Langbiang Mountain for early hikes and to the ethnic minority villages around it; feels rural and quiet. It’s about 12km from downtown, so you’ll want a motorbike, car, or taxi for evening meals and sightseeing.
Tuyen Lam Lake Area
Forested and peaceful, geared toward slower stays — a good fit if wellness or nature is the priority. It’s 5–7km from downtown with few walkable dining options, so plan on arranging transport.
Cau Dat & the Countryside
Farm-stays and glamping among tea and flower plantations, for a fully rural experience. It’s the furthest from the city center and attractions, with the fewest amenities nearby.
👉 Recommendation:
If you want to be close to everything, base yourself in the City Center or the Old French Quarter. If you’re after quiet and nature, Tuyen Lam Lake or Langbiang is worth the extra travel time.
